Oh wait....yeah, the citizens of the state of Washington will once again finance play toys for Seattle.
509, sound like you guys owe us about 16% back, you cool with us changing things to reflect that?

""It's really important to be super transparent with the public - that there is this perception that rural areas subsidize the city - and it's just not true - under any condition, any circumstance, any data," said Sen. Reuven Carlyle (D), Seattle.
"The truth of the matter there is a massive outflow of tax dollars from the urban areas, Seattle, King County, and a few other areas in general to the rest of the state."
Carlyle pointed to an Office of Financial Management report that came out this month, which was first reported by Danny Westneat in the Seattle Times.
It showed King County accounts for 43.29% of all state tax revenues, yet, it only uses 27.41%. Instead, the millions of dollars raised in King County are used elsewhere across Washington state".

Well... apart from the fact that the rural areas feed the rest of us. Kind of important that.

Further, the influx of visitor dollars and PR will help Seattle subsidize the rural areas...

That wasn’t the complaint. The complaint was that Seattle was using money that belonged to rural areas. I have no objection to Seattle’s money being used to support a higher quality of life in rural areas. We are all from the same state/country/world and should help and support each other. And I think all parts of the state, including the rural areas, are worthy of support, development and great places to live and work, if that’s what one wants.

I DO object to people being given Seattle money and complaining that Seattle is taking their money because they believe self-serving, dishonest narratives designed to divide us.

I think this is a great idea and can’t wait for this to happen.

If this is properly structured and we didn’t go crazy on spending couldn’t this actually bring in more money to the community than it cost?

What are the real costs?
Grass, Law Enforcement overtime and maybe some street cleaning?

This could be a boost.
San Francisco and San Diego do well with their events.
No logical reason that wouldn’t work here .

We won't get very far trying to parse out the contributions of rural vs. urban Washington. Truly we are all Washingtonians and should be working for the good of each other.

The divisive, acrimonious, and cynical arguments put forth that attempt to sideline the contributions of any of us are usually sourced from folks whose mission is the decline of civil society.

They usually make profit, otherwise they wouldn't be held. Financial failures are usually due to cities far over-extending themselves with things like new stadiums and such with the hope of future tourism/investment dollars, or suffer from corruption. Seattle is using existing infrastructure, doesn't need to advertise to tourists or investors, and the finances/influences are very open. So they don't have to do much new spending at all.
