Food expenses;earthquake insurance
Hi, I am trying to figure out a Seattle household's average food expenses in 2008, for a family of 2 and of 3. What's your experience? Any idea where to get these figures?
Also, will your home owner's insurance Company continue to provide earthquake next year? Thanks much.

I'm not sure, but as far as I know, our insurer, State Farm, doesn't plan to exit the earthquake insurance market.
I am sure that our household is very much in the minority locally when it comes to even having this kind of insurance. This year, we plan to take a close look at the premiums and deductibles (both pretty high) before deciding whether to renew.
I guess it's a topic for another thread, but I would be interested in other locals' views on 'quake insurance, pro and con.

Thanks! How about food expenses per capita? or per household (2 or 3)? Thanks.

Food expenses will be very similar to wherever you currently live in the US.
There are plenty of insurers offering Earthquake insurance at reasonable cost, haven't heard of any that are discontinuing it.

Local insurance companies drop quake coverage - KING5.com
Pemco is one. As for "reasonable," that's hard to say. The coverage is expensive. Whether it's a good value, well, that's the question...

Seattle food prices are actually a little higher than most places. But you'll also be making a little more money here.

Allstate did a couple years back - though they did help their customers sign up with earthquake insurance through outfits like GeoVera (which specialize in such coverage).
