If anybody ever wonders why it is important to be prepared than watch the show Walking Dead. The show is great fun and it shows how important having guns and food etc. is in a collapsed society. Love love this show!
How many times do I have to say it?!!! Survival in a real SHTF scenario is NOTHING NOTHINGNOTHING like TV!!!!!
Enjoy it for entertainment value ONLY.
...except for this movie:
A real apocalypse would be only slightly more miserable and torturous than sitting through that movie. If you haven't seen it already, don't. You may not survive the experience.
any person that is into survival and the possibility of TSHTF, then opsec will be a big part of their lives as well.
you would probably not even know that a person is even into survivalism and being able to support themselves if SHTF.
Bah. When I saw that this show, apparently set in Georgia, featured a cast where supposedly only the LEO knew anything about guns, I lost interest. That's a (yet another) Hollywood version of the South.
This show isn't about the South, and the main character isn't the only LEO or person who knows about guns. The show/comic features gangs with guns, army veteran with machine guns, Avid hunters, people with swords and crossbows etc. The show isn't about bashing zombies every minute either. It's about people trying to survive a Zombie Apocalypse.
Walking Dead isn't for everyone but lets try and remember it's for entertainment value. If you're not into zombies, check out the Postman, Book of Eli, or The Road.
The idea of this thread is survival and preparedness. The chance of a zombie apocalypse is extremely low...like 20 trillion to one. History channel did a show on this subject and actually came up with a possible viable zombie cause...but nothing near whats seen on TV though.
Now with that said, a real life survival event doesn't always come in the form of zombies. People in Louisiana found them selves in a real life survival situation during and after Katrina. We experienced a little of that here in Texas with Rita and Ike. You also natural disasters like the Tornadoes that tore a part the country last year sitting a record in damage. We actually had one run through the ranch missing us by a quarter mile! Needless to say the power was down for days and roads was cut off due to down trees. Thankfully we had a house installed ofter the freak ice storm years before. Speaking of ice storm, that one knocked out the power for 2wks in our area and a month in other parts. It took our uncle two days with 2-3 people using chainsaws to cut out a path on the road in order to get out.
Another possible crisis is a financial melt down. We saw people living out of their cars when the economy started tanking back in 2007. This for a lot of people was/is an apocalypse.
Anyhow, I know a lot of people prepare for Zombie attacks but I like to prepare for natural disasters since they are much more common....that or maybe E.T
I do think the show brings up a few good points. Like the importance of having a couple of firearms in your bug out gear (how to use them), having a decent plan (location) & a group of people to link up with. Love the show.

Disadvantages to typing on a 3" scene...you leave out words or over look other things.
I really think a definition for "zombie" needs to presented. The word has become clouded over the years through slang usage. Actually, we really need to come up with a better word for what I think and hope most of you are using the word "zombie."
Because... if any of you think your great, great, great grandpappy who rode the Pony Express is going to push his way out of his grave (along with your great uncle John who died in the war and long-forgotten great, great auntie Martha who died from the consumption) and come after you... well, you're nuts. You've watched one too many "night of the living dead" movies.
