Anyway say which is best or any other brands better? I'm newbie to these. Thanks.
Sorry if this doesn't fit forum but I thought it might, as many folks do use them in case of comms down in emergency events. I found only one thread in Radio that even mentioned Tecsun, so thought since it was way back in '09, it needed a new thread to revive topic.
I really don't think there is much difference in optimum performance among those two. So it really comes down to which one meets your individual listening style, personal preference of operation and budget. Since they are just too close in performance to make any technical ratings, much of the reviews on one over the other comes down to which side the headphone jack is on, how easy is the face to clean or if it matches the decor.
Be sure to check out the Sony ICF SW7600GR as well...I have one, and have only great things to say about it! Superb sound, high quality build, great reception, 100 memories, USB/LSB, ease of use...all tops.
You won't be making a mistake with any of these radios, but check out the Sony.
Get your Amateur Radio license.
then, get a Yaesu FT-857 or FT-897 all mode all band transceiver.
Then get good antenna systems. You will need two antennas for those radios, one for UHF/VHF (2 meters/70cm), and one for HF (6 meters thru 160 meters)
then enjoy.
RedRaven, good info & I'll need save for it & eventually licence myself. But Nor', I think Sony looks good too & a bit cheaper than Tecsun. So its coin toss.
Visit the Radio Jay Allen website. Filled with reviews. I just bought a Sangean PD 5 for AM and it works very well. For SW I also have a Tecsun and just bought a C Crane Skywave. They offer average performance.
