At least until the day when they will deliver to a residence because I just can't deal with their nightmare parking anymore, fortunately I have more money than time and I don't mind paying more for a pleasant experience overall, not just within the store.
Costco has done so much right, why can't their success begin with the moment you pull into the place? I arrive feeling good and enjoying my day, I leave with a migraine and a mood that would put Charles Manson to shame. Never again!
They need to take a lesson or two from Ikea, now that's a place that knows how to design parking or at least come up with a system that worked for them.
Wow - I was just at my local Costco this morning. And as I was walking back to my car I was thinking how much nicer the Costco parking lot was compared to my local grocery store. The spaces are larger, the cart corrals are sturdier, larger and well placed. Maybe it's just your local store?

The only problem with ours (Issaquah, WA next to the corporate headquarters) is that when busy you have to walk from/to the far corners, but there is always space. We have learned to go 10 minutes before opening time, we park right near the doors and get in and out. They always open 5-10 minutes before the posted time. They have expanded the lot twice since it opened, and again when they lost parking to the gas pumps. Then again when they added more gas pumps to reduce the lines at them.

Now there's an irony. You're comparing Costco's difficult parking to IKEA, a store with such an unnavigable maze of a layout it would discourage even the brightest of rats

Good point. Ours is going to be demolished, and a new one built on the current parking lot/garage. It was one of the first and now they want it to be 2 story like the newer ones, making it even harder to negotiate. I think that's planned, you might spot and buy something while looking for what you came to get. You really need that frozen yogurt when you are ready to leave.
