Some years ago, I announced my retirement from the christmas frenzy. I don't give gifts, I don't want anyone to give me anything. I avoid most of the parties. The immediate and ongoing stress relief is amazing.
Why anyone participates in this is beyond me,
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. The absolute *last* thing I want to do is spoil it with a shopping stampede.

I predict some people will call these shopper "brainwashed, materialistic, sheeple" just to boost their own ego.
I don't like the whole Black Friday hype right after Thanksgiving either but i can handle the fact that everyone elses lives don't revolve around MY beliefs

My family did the same thing about 15 years ago. No gifts, we all just pick a charity or a local family in need and donate what we would have spent on each other in that way. It has made the spirit of the season really mean something to us, and no one misses the gifts. The holidays have turned into a time of getting together with family to enjoy good food and good company, and best of all, no stress.

Yeah, those christian folks with their upstanding values, morality, and all together good sense. Its a wonder they leave their houses on any days even remotely resembling a holiday. Why just the other day I saw a Christian at wal-mart . . of all times 9am on a sunday. What he was doing there, god only knows. Proof of the ruination of our country no doubt (though, it could of been the Mcdonalds coffee prices within the store).
I've said it before, and it bears repeating. If you don't want to spend Thanksgiving Day or the friday after at a department store, don't. I do all my shopping online, I get 'er done by Halloween, and I sit back and poke fun at those who sweat the holidays.

We, too retired from the Christmas frenzy some years ago. Actually, it was my brother's idea and my mother had a bird at first. But it's been awesome and I think even she agrees that the time and money saved are priceless. I really don't understand why people participate in a lot of it, either, especially the ritual exchange of gift cards and the office Christmas gift exchanges...just awkward. I am looking forward to my first holiday season working from home so I won't have to deal with it.
I will admit going out on Black Friday. Last year I went out around noon. Everyone else had gone home by then, but the items I was thinking of getting were still in stock so I got the great price without the hassle. I might do that again this year if there is something I need at a great price.
