Why isn't anyone complaining about McDonald's paying low wages they make billions of dollars just not as much as Wal-mart but everyone seems happy with them paying employees minimum wage, at least Wal-mart averages $10 an hour in most states which is more than federal minimum wage requires.

I lived in Santos near Sao Paulo over thirty-five years ago and they had these huge Walmart-type supermercado stores before we had them here. It's strange that they sort of had the idea abroad before we did here in the states.

I believe department stores in the US in the early part of the 20th century did carry some food. Not sure why they phased that out, but it's definitely come back with a vengeance.
Carrefour, which another poster mentioned, also had US supercenter locations in the late 80's/early 90's.
It's amazing how inconsistent people are when it comes to Wal*Mart. They rail against the company for this or that, while talking about how much they prefer Target or another, similar store. The hypocrisy lies in the fact that Target et al do the exact same things. But since Wal*Mart is the most successful, they're the "evil" one.
The hypocrisy (or simple ignorance of the obvious) is astounding.
As for the OP, I hadn't heard about it.
but the thing is, Target will most often pay you better when starting off, even McDonalds will sometimes start you off around the same.

I have a close friend that is making a little over $10 dollars an hour and she has been with the company for over 5 years now.
I would guess that basically she has not gotten beyond the same job she started at.
