OK, in the 15 years I've lived in my present home I've received packages/letters that should have gone to a neighbor; and, sometimes they've received my mail/packages. Note this usually happens with packages, not letters/periodicals as much (though that happens sometimes too).
Whenever I receive a package that doesn't belong to me, I immediately bring it to the rightful owner. And, the neighbors who have gotten my packages are nice & honest enough to bring them to me.
However, this is irritating because I always wonder if there is mail/packages that I'm supposed to get (that I may not be aware were sent to me) that I don't receive because someone who got this didn't bother to give it to me. As far as I know, there's not way to be sure if a neighbor received a mis-delivered package.
I don't understand why this happens at all, let alone as much as it does. Don't the postal carriers read the addresses before delivering the packages? Aren't they supposed to all at least be able to read English? I mean, WTF?!
Anyone else run into this issue where you live?!

well just recently I had a friend who I started writng to said she got two of my letters a month later and both of them had been tampered with and torn . she is going to the post office to let them know they have a theif working there so I guess we will see if the post office cares enough to find out who did this . glad it was not something super costly I was sending her . it is a shame those people who work for the post office feel the need to steal.
Sometimes packages get stolen if left on the porch. It happened to me a couple of times so I got a mailbox at the UPS store where all my packages are delivered.
The only time here is when a temporary worker in place of regular mail woman. Happened at our other House in past with temps. They seem to hire from the unemployable list. Report to post office and nothing is done as it happens repeatedly.

That's the impression I get as well. I notice that the mis-deliveries seem to all happen at around the same time, and then they stop & it doesn't happen for a while. Then it starts happening again...
Again, I can't understand why these mis-deliveries even occur - do these mail-people even look at the addresses when delivering these letters/packages?! What a bunch of nit-wits!!
Our neighborhood has difficulty getting the mail put into the correct mailboxes. On any given day, you see people in our neighborhood delivering mail to their neighbors. It becomes a problem when you forget to actually look at the name and address and mistakenly open someone else's mail. I do think that the problem is back at the post office and that the people who are hired to sort the mail are not very careful.
I have also received mail for another neighborhood in another town where the address was similar but not the same and definitely another zip code.

Sorry to hear you're having the same problem. If the mail is sorted back at the post office & the postal employees aren't looking at the addresses when they put the mail in the mail box, then that's being poorly handled right there - there should be a better system so that the postal employee makes sure that the mail they're delivering is being put in the correct mail-boxes at the time of delivery.
However, just as bad is when a postal employee delivers a package - which may contain expensive items - to the wrong address. This is extremely sloppy - obviously they should be looking at a package's address right before it's delivered so they can make sure it's going to the correct address. This should be a no-brainer
I've had UPS deliver my packages to a person with the same house number, one street up, or down the street where the house number is, for example, 332 instead of 322. There are also a couple of times that I have had someone else's mail and catalogs delivered to my mailbox. People are in such a hurry to get the job done that they don't bother to read what's actually on the mailing label.
