Tony123,

Thanks again for the post, sorry for the confusion, the way your earlier reply read, it was that you had $60k left after the mortgage and a mortgage on a $300k house has got to be close to $2k per month.

No worries,

I've not been fortunate enough to locate any decent jobs, but to be fair, it's hard to do from a distance. I'll keep trying to line up something prior to making a decision.

And thanks to everyone else for their input, I'll let you know how things turn out.

Tony

No problem. I think we're both thinking the same things, just a little complicated to get across on a forum.

We put significant down money on the house. Our payment is not close to that.

You hit the nail on the head though in that you have to be at a place to have a fair shot at getting a job there. But then, that's a scary thing to do too. But what company wants to hear in an interview that it'll take a month or two for you to relocate. If it's a good job, they need you NOW.

No easy answers. Being thorough in our research and forming a gameplan is about the best any can do. And you are.

No worries,

It's all good stuff, I was thread jacked on another forum, but it's fun to get to ask people their opinions, helps to get other points of view to make a more informed decision.

Not long ago we thought about moving to Columbia to live on one salary of $50K. I was encouraged to see what $150K could buy in the area. It will definitely get you the kind of modest home you are looking for.
