I would say suburban. It has a lot of rural areas but few people live in them. None of our major cities really count as urban.

I disagree with you as far as major cities go. They are urban, just not massively so.

But SC is more urbanized than not and that largely takes the form of suburban development with some urban nodes located throughout.

Kind of a silly question...every state is going to have its rural areas where there are no towns, houses, or neighborhoods for miles on end. South Carolina is no different. Compared with the other deep south states, South Carolina is more dense than Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and is only a slight smidge behind Georgia.

After working up in Maryland and northern New Jersey outside of Manhattan, nothing seems urban to me in SC. But these kind of things are somewhat subjective I think.

I learned recently NJ, the most urbanized state, is only like 35 percent developed, which is quite surprising.

What do you mean by "developed"? New Jersey is the most densely populated state. Are you suggesting only 35% of the land is used by people?

lol, you must not have spent much time in either to ask that question. NC is like 9th largest state now in population. SC is like 25th or so.
