Given the criteria they used as explained in the article and what you cited... and the last sentence in the article .... I couldn't agree more...theres a lot to be proud of.
Without looking at the list, I know Mt. Pleasant, Hilton Head, and Lexington are on the list. Other guesses include Fort Mill/Tega Cay, Charleston (proper), and some Upstate suburb like Simpsonville or Traveler's Rest or something.

Even though Lexington is a town it often loses its identity as a town as many of us that live in Lexington, live in the county. Part of the criteria was private schools per capita, theaters per capita and art galleries per capita. Lexington itself has few of these as they draw on Columbia for those type things.
I relocated to Lexington from Mount Pleasant. I find Lexington to be more a "bedroom type suburb" of Columbia then a town standing on its own.
Lexington is a typical suburban area. There are some wealthy people out there but I doubt most of them are snobs. Most successful people have good people skills, it is part of the reason for their success.
Lexington has a lot of middle class people.
My opinion, pretentious people tend to live closer to the downtown of a larger city than out in the burbs. If you ride down 378, it doesn't look like a pretentious area and I can't see a snob liking that at all.
I thought the 29072 zip for Lexington where I used to live was full of snobs. To each their own, but there were way more "I'm better than you" mentalities there than I've ever met in other areas I have lived in.
