South Carolina is usually warm in the spring, summer, and autumn months. It does snow during the winter months.

Beaufort has the small southern charm and culture, and is not far from Hilton Head Island and is right between Charleston and Savannah, but crime may be an issue. Though that crime may be concentrated. So i'd take a thorough look, don't rely just on crime maps.

Conway has a little charm and is close enough, yet far enough from the beach, but it has sprawled with Myrtle Beach's growth. Hwy 501 that goes through town is used by tourists to get in and out of Myrtle, so traffic can be a hassle at times.

Bluffton is close to Hilton Head, and is the most family friendly, but it's also pretty new, so it's not going to have that "historic" culture feel that Charleston or Beaufort have. But Savannah is not far away.

Bluffton checks all your boxes; low crime, affordable, very nice weather, one of the most family friendly towns in the country, by the beach, short drive to Hilton Head/Savannah/Beaufort, AND has a need for physicians(Lots of retired people in surrounding towns). I myself moved from Milford, CT to Bluffton 5 years ago. LOVE IT HERE. The growth is CRAZY here, very optomistic feeling around here, lots of people from the Northeast relocating here for better weater, lower cost of living, etc.

Wow that's awesome. I definitely am going to check it out then. Hopefully there is a need for Infectious Disease specialists (however I'm desperate enough to get away from the winters here that I'll take almost anything that is offered) .

Thanks, you've narrowed it down for me. Now I'm gonna start looking for job listings in those areas.

So I've actually found a couple of job listings in Myrtle beach and Conway. Still looking for opportunities in the other towns suggested on here. Any thoughts on the crime rate? I've been reading that Myrtle beach in particular has some some problems with crime.

Myrtle Beach doesnt sound like what youre looking for, but it's still a good place. You could always commute.

When it comes to crime, like I said, you just have to do thorough searches, drive arounds, get a feel for areas you don't need to be in. Because of the odd city limit shape, tourist population, and method of the crime maps, Myrtle looks much much worse than it is.

For instance, Myrtle was ranked the 12th most dangerous city in 2014, but recorded 2 murders the whole year. That doesnt warrant a "12th most dangerous" to me. The rankings are skewed and shouldnt be taken as gospel.

Your family will be fine in Horry County. If things were that bad, people wouldn't be moving there in droves.

Durham NC is sometimes called the "City of Hospitals", certainly there is a lot going on in the medical field in the Triangle, in research as well as healthcare.
My aunt moved from CT to FL and complains about the heat every time we talk. I tell her she overshot the landing and should move here. A lot of people have, and we call them "halfbacks" as in moved halfway back to the North.
South Carolina is warmer and the beach life is more frantic. In North Carolina you have your choice of mountains, Piedmont or the shore.
Check it out.

Haha that's a funny name "half backs". Well I am interested in Wilmington and surrounding area but so far no luck in the job hunt. I'm also looking at places along the Georgia coast. In the end, the place I choose really depends on where the work is. I may love one town or another but if there is no work there then it ain't gonna happen.

Another question that just occurred to me. My wife and I are both originally from Europe. We have heard that the American South is very religious and conservative. We are quite the opposite to that. I was wondering if this would be a problem moving to a place such as MB? Would there be a lot of discrimination? Hopefully the people are a bit more laid back in MB compared to the more rural areas. What about in the other southern states? I am sure the larger the town the more diverse it is, any thoughts on MB and Conway?
