Hi all, Trying to call SCDMV to get answers to no avail. I am trying to find out how one can obtain license plate and registration renewal being temporarily in another state? Property taxes are paid just need to renew plates and registration. Can these be done online?

Usually get paid with the taxes, then you get sent the tag and/or sticker. If you have the car in another state, then someone can mail it on to you where you are. (I had to do that once.)

Thank you Upstate John. I had to leave SC on emergency and forgot all about renewing my registration and tags. ugh! they are a month overdue. I tried up renew online but got an error message ( 3118) saying that I had to renew up to 3 months before expiration. Well that didn't happen. SO I am trying to call DMV and always get a recorded message saying to call back later even though the initial recorded message says they will call you back the the same day, then takes you to another line telling you to call back. I'm confused and I really need to talk to someone as to what do I do now? I am over 800 miles away.

Does anyone know what I can do at this point?

Maybe things are different in the county where you reside.

I am having my mail forwarded so unless it got lost in the mail I never got mine sent to me. I paid my car tax online and have a printed receipt and I got an confirmation email but that's it. I assume they expect me to come in person to get my new registration and tags. Also, yes the car is with me in the other state. I have no one In SC that can assist me with this.

SCDMV, how does anyone get thru to talk to someone?

Update: Talked to county treasurer office. My registration and tags got sent to my SC address but didn't get forwarded so it went back to treasurer's office. Its been sitting there for a month. They are going to send it to my temporary/forwarded address! I'm so glad I found that out and glad I don't have to deal directly with DMV.
Thank You John, you were right. I am new resident of SC so its my first time dealing with DMV alot different than where I came from.
