I thought there was also one before Christmas, but I can't find anything about it. It is just 3 days...Friday-Sunday (Aug 1-3)
Its not just on school supplies like pencils and paper...

(b) The exemptionallowed by this item does not apply to: (i) sales of jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, wallets, watches;
(ii) sales of furniture;

Some stores that don't have tax free items will discount items to make them "tax free"...I know there is a matress store in Charleston advertising tax free this weekend. Clothing includes all clothing...including wedding gowns!
g-man430, thanks for the info. I was led to believe there was no sales tax on all items, so its good to get that clarified. Also, I was not planning on buying a boat! I already own one that I'm still paying for and not using! As a matter of fact, I need to fly back to Calif. in Sept. and drive my truck and boat to SC. Any chance gas will go back down to $2 per gallon by then????

I'm going out to San Francisco next Thursday. I could bring it back for you.
I think 'tax-free' is just a gimmick. If you go out and spend $300 on a child for clothes, supplies, backpatc, etc you'll save what... approximately $21? Is it worth that to fight crowds similar to those of Black Friday? Especially when you consider that if you've watched sales the last several weeks and continue to watch them over the next few weeks leading up to the new school year, you'll be able to save at least that much - if not more - and not have to corral through a big, hot, muggy, sweaty, stinky crowd. Several weeks ago Walmart had spiral notebooks marked down to $.10 each. I bought 20 of them for my daughter for drawing, song-writing, etc. That's not the only sale on back-to-school items I've seen.
