State Rep. Dan Cooper, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee where all state revenue measures must originate, gave a short answer when asked whether the General Assembly might increase highway funding: “No,” he said.

He said the idea of a percentage tax on gasoline had been “kicked around in some circles” but has not been considered in any formal setting. Asked what might be done to alleviate the looming highway gridlock in the region, he responded, “That’s a good question.”

*facepalm* I am amazed at Cooper's stupidity. He has no plan to tackle this problem: GSA Business | Greenville, SC | Spartanburg, SC | Anderson, SC Our state government is useless.

I'm not sure they're useless. After all, Three Stooges reruns are hard to find any more. Besides, without their dedicated work, how would we ever know the spotted salamander was our state amphibian, or our state snack is boiled peanuts?

Highway funding? They're tied up with more important issues, like drug testing for all those who are unemployed. Not sure which part of our budget "surplus" is going to pay for that...
