South Dakota is a friendly state with variety. It is green and full of farms and small towns in the eatern part of the state. The eastern part of the state has most of the larger communities. There are a number of lakes and rivers in the eastern part of the state. The central part is open and grassy, good for those who like to hunt for animals and to be outside. The western part is beautiful. There are canyons in the Badlands and the Balck Hills (a group of small mountains covered by pine, spruce, and coniferous trees. It is best to visit the state to get a true flavor of what the state is like.

Harald,
NE South Dakota would feel very familar to you as it was settled by Scandinavians-predominently Norwegians! Where are your relatives and what family name are you researching? My family came from Numedal, Laerdal, More og Romsdal. Is this the Harald from Rootsweb by chance?
Sincerely,
Kay Marie
