Are these cool places to stop or should I skip them?
Porter Scultpture Park in Montrose
1880 Cowboy Town in Buffalo Ridge
Skull and Bones of Hero the circus elephant in Vermillion
Presidents Park in Lead
Me and a friend will be touring the country in a couple of years and I want to plan everything out. I will be in SD anyway for Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial, and these things sounded fun. Are they?

Smartie Pants, I saw your original thread on the National Forum so here's what I would set up to see if I was traveling through South Dakota:
1-Falls Park in Sioux Falls with lunch at Camille's
2-Corn Palace in Mitchell
3-Wall Drug in Wall
4-Downtown Rapid City art galleries, markets, and Indian shops with breakfast at Tally's
5-COSMOS!!!
6-Mount Rushmore
7-Lunch at The Alpine in Hill City
8-Crazy Horse
9-Take Scenic 385 to Deadwood
10-Spearfish Canyon back to I-90 West

Is that the one along I-90 near (I think) Kennebec? I used to love going to that when I was little. They have props from Dances with Wolves.

I've never been to that one, Debey. I think the OP is referring to that on though, so it's good to know that it's not a prime stop.
Smartie Pants, there is another 1880 Town along I-90 near the town of Kennebec. You can't really miss is because it's right alongside the Interstate and it has huge electric signs. You may find that enjoyable. There really isn't much to see in South Dakota outside of the Black Hills other than the occasional, fun tourist traps.

SmartiePants, Danny has a good itinerary. The Buffalo Ridge ghost town that is on I-90 (exit 390) just west of Sioux Falls isn't really anything special.

Danny has some very good suggestions. I would definitely second him on the Falls Park, Corn Palace, Wall Drug, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Scenic 385, and Spearfish Canyon. Wall Drug, Mt. Rushmore, and Corn Palace are definitely must see places when passing through South Dakota.
It would not be a bad idea to consider seeing the Badlands near Wall Drug and stopping by Al's Oasis in Oacoma.

Porter Scultpture Park in Montrose - SKIP! You can see part of it from the Interstate and that'll probably be more than enough. Do the downtown Sioux Falls sculpture walk instead. It's free, not in the middle of nowhere, and the sculptures are not painted garbage cans.
1880 Cowboy Town in Buffalo Ridge - SKIP! Overpriced, boring.

I love the Sculpture Walk downtown in SF... So many neat ones...and the artists are from all across the country!
