My conclusion, from the mathematics, is that you never get inside of the event horizon. You stay on the event horizon, and the area of the black hole increases proportionately to the amout of your mass. You're smeared on the surface like jelly on toast. Which of course, is all based on the theoretical models of how a black hole functions. We don't know for certain.

In the early part of the century the common thought is you would be stretched like spaghetti (called "spaghettification") but we're learning that that's most likely inaccurate. Still popular to hear that as what the public thinks because of older videos talking about this.

To actually answer the question, no, matter would not exceed the speed of light.
