I don't know if NJ is different, but we did not get to choose a school, provided that the school offered the recommended program. Unless a child cannot be accommodated in the district, they are not going to send you out of district to another school, as far as I know. You can ask, but it seems unlikely to me that they will do an outplacement especially in the early years.
If they have problems with your child, they might.

Autism is so variable, that it is difficult to find good sources of information that speak to your specific child.
