Hey fellow Washingtonians, need your help. I am relocating from Texas with my 11 year old grand-baby (middle school). I need guidance to find the most liberal/tolerant/diverse, sunny, friendliest, low crime, economical region (semi-retiree) to relocate. Looking for that great area where people are respectful of other people's right to enjoy life. I love cooler climates/little snow, great family values with family fun events. If I can find those values, they will override the negatives, right? I know Washington state is the place for me...What are your thoughts?

If you want liberal and cooler climates/little snow, you need to post on the Seattle forum, not the Spokane forum.

Eastern WA is mostly conservative, hot in the summer (although probably not as hot as TX), and cold and snowy in the winter.

There are a few places with less snow, such as Walla Walla as Mistyriver mentioned, but it's still going to be very cold compared to TX, and Walla Walla isn't liberal - although it may be leaning that way a little more all the time with the influx of wineries. According to a website that I found (that I can't link because they are probably a C-D competitor) - Walla Walla is 57.5% Republican.

Western WA is much cooler in the summer, much less (or no) snow in the winter, and the major metro areas are very liberal. Sun is minimal for most of the year, though, except in July and August.

Walla Walla has a pretty liberal component to it because of Whitman College and the wineries.

Whitman is now one of the most liberal campuses in the country.

Thanks all, I worked with a great friend while in San Francisco and while on a snow trip to Tahoe met her family from Walla Walla, nice people. I was thinking about the Tri-Cities area. I know the universities in Washington are great...so really good for the granddaughter. I am planning a look see visit within the next month to help me decide, but I will look at Walla Walla a little closer. I wish for my granddaughter to become interested in winter sports like sking, snow boarding and summer hiking. Can I find these interests in Tri Cities/Walla Walla?

Walla Walla is 52 miles from Bluewood: Ski Bluewood > Home

It's the smallest ski hill in the inland NW, but pretty decent snow.
