I've read on these boards how awful, horrendous, unlivable, inescapable winters are. Come on.

It's not 7 months of winters like some people say. It's 4-5 months. Basically mid November to late March. And it's not quite Seattle or Portland where you don't see the sun for 4 months straight. I agree it can get dreary but the sun makes an appearance regularly if only briefly.

And the summers are amazing with little to no rain and hot dry days with days. And the sun doesn't go down until close to 10pm in mid summer. Maybe it's just me but I love days when it's 80 during the day, 50 at night with 30% humidity. That's a typical Spokane summer day.

As for the winter months....you have 6 ski areas within a 90 minute drive.

I agree completely.

I think some of the "bad weather" comments originate from transplants from other parts of the state or country. Spokane snowfall is significant, but almost never leads to shut-down of infrastructure. I grew up in the Methow Valley, and Spokane's snowfall is a cake-walk compared to Winthrop.

I think the worst thing about winter is the "Spokane gray", but even that is much less severe than Western WA gray.

Not that bad?

Dang it, I was hoping for a "horrible" lifetime of winters upon my eventual but undetermined return.

The news was saying it might stop raining for Thanksgiving.

I completely agree. I grew up in Spokane but moved to South Carolina for college. I did some research on the climate difference and learned that Spokane has dry summers (obviously) but humid winters compared to the rest of the country. It feels way different. I'd rather have 10 degrees in WA than 40 degrees in SC. Plus, snow is fun if you learn to make it that way!

My favorite part about Spokane, though, is that we have snowy winters AND hot summers. I work as a lifeguard and I think our summers are ALMOST perfectly hot. To me, the weather always turns around right when you're ready. When I get tired of the cold, summer comes around. When I'm tired of sweating my balls off, here comes winter.
