Don't get it twisted as you remember I said that " franchises in NYC,LA,Chi-Town (Makes A League A Major Sports League) what's your reply to that...waiting.

So yes .... the 1,000,000 attendance mark isn't some magical figure that precludes you from being minor league

It is when you have teams in Major Metro Area's....

Especially when you factor in things like free/discounted tickets, lack of competition in the home market, ticket prices, etc

What lack of competition in home markets NYC,LA,Chi-Town...

The WNBA isn't even major league by womens basketball standards ..... which is why most of the players go overseas to play where they earn the bulk of their money

WNBA is the number one professional women basketball league period.

In 2010 the most a veteran player in the WNBA could make was $101,000. The rookie minimum was $35,910.

Yeah and a lot of men on the PGA tour make less than that...

The AFL is even worse .... they provide housing & meals to players, but the pay is less than $1,000 per game
They have a long way to go as Major League Sports don't they????

The AAA level 16 team Pacific Coast League drew 7,032,525 last year.

The short season A ball league that I used to watch as a kid in upstate NY - the NY Penn League drew 1,825,442 over their 14 teams last year

NYPL teams play in stadiums that look like this:

the Phoenix Mercury have won championships here and no one cares - it's not even a blip on the radar out here ... same with the Rattlers .... they gave away pretty much the entire upper level of the Arena Bowl this year and still didn't fill the building

The WNBA has 12 teams with 17 home games a piece (34 total) .... even if the league pulled 2M that would still be under 10,000 a game ...... that is minor league

The TV ratings aren't much better .... less than 500,000 viewers to watch the finals? Playoff games pulling a .4 share. Regular season games much lower than that.

There are 18 AFL teams playing 18 regular season games (9 home games per team) .... that meaningless 1,000,000 attendance figure you threw out there would equate to 6,173 fans per game

Professional Bull Riding pulls in over 1.5M live spectators and a TV audience over 400M in their seasons

the WNBA & AFL are not major sports leagues ... the only reason why the WNBA exists is because it's a marketing tool for the NBA and the NBA has lost money on it since it came around .... despite the NBA clout they had to pay to have their games on TV for the first decade they existed ... yeah, that's major

This year the World Series of Poker on ESPN2 drew an average of 415,000 viewers over 10 telecasts, the prime time telecasts on ESPN drew an average of 615,000 viewers

The WNBA has never drawn as many viewers as 615,000 for one of their championship games .... they are getting beat by poker ..... again, not major league
I started not to beat a dead horse to death , but here's goes ( you are missing ) my point Major League Sports Leagues have teams in NYC,LA,Chi-Town and other Major League Cities.

WNBA & AFL are not minor league

WNBA can't support itself financially .... that's why the all go to turkey, russia, etc to actually make their money

also - did you really say that a lo of men on the PGA tour make less than $101,000 maximum that the WNBA players get ... let alone the
$36k minimum?!

are you crazy?!

currently 214 of the 262 players on the PGA tour have made more than $101k, YTD

PGATOUR.com - Live Projected Money List (http://www.pgatour.com/r/stats/current/money_projections-1.html - broken link)

right now to be in the top 125 you need over $567k

I just did a quick count - there are 132 players in the WNBA - the best paid is making around $101k .... 132 on the PGA money list YTD is $499,118

The PGA event here in Phoenix routinely draws at least 400,000 spectators to it over the 4 days of tournament play ... more often it's closer to 500,000 (and that is with a big drop on Sunday due to it going against the super bowl in most years)

So basically one golf tournament here in phoenix will draw in as many fans as about half of the AFLs yearly combined attendance

The US Open which is going on right now draws over 700,000 for it's event

You state that it's impressive to hit the 1,000,000 target because they play in places where there is a lot of people?! - that is a complete logic fail

the NY Penn League out draws the AFL and is on par with the WNBA - it's very minor league baseball (short season a ball - rookie league is about the only thing lower on the scale)

So a league that draws less than minor league baseball, draws less or on par with professional bull riding, gets less TV viewership than poker and pays their employees on par with a walgreen cashier (AFL) or on par with standard middle class working person (WNBA) is some how amongst the major sports leagues?!

if you think that qualifies there really isn't much more to say

The city of Green Bay does not own the Packers. The shareholders own the Packers.

Doesn't have anything to do with Major Markets making up Major League sports Leagues.

The US Open which is going on right now draws over 700,000 for it's event

Great , but attendance is way down withpout Tiger...

No

What cities do they play in , and while you at it " what Venuses do they play in " that's important to....

So a league that draws less than minor league baseball, draws less or on par with professional bull riding, gets less TV viewership than poker and pays their employees on par with a walgreen cashier (AFL) or on par with standard middle class working person (WNBA) is some how amongst the major sports leagues?!

Tulsa is not a major league town

Your drift is as wrong as saying that PGA tour members don't vastly out draw WNBA players in revenue

You have minor league teams that play in major venues in major cities all the time

Indoor Lacrosse is a good example

Again, you can create whatever criteria you want to fit your point of view - just understand that you'll be on your own island and people are going to look at you like you're nuts if you start proclaiming some 3rd rate league as being "major" because they play in a nice stadium in Tulsa

From what I remembered reading about the Packers, the city of Green Bay IS at least a shareholder of the team so in effect they (the public) do in some form or fashion OWN the Packers!

No what i meant is that some PGA golfers have income in that pay range....

You have minor league teams that play in major venues in major cities all the time

Name a few for me????? , and do they play in Major League Venues????

Indoor Lacrosse is a good example

Is there a team in NYC,LA or Chi-Town?????

Is Madison Square Garden just a nice ARENA , no it's World Class just like the BOK Arena is in the city of Tulsa , it's highly ranked on a National Scale and also a International Scale.....
