I don't think he has anything to gain by lying to authorities. Brazil is a corrupt third world country, and they have been hell bent on hiding the real Rio from the world. Lochte exposed that on an international level (as if no one knew, lol), and they're upset about it. Three things about this alleged fabrication:
1) Calm demeanor - have you ever heard him talk, let alone when intoxicated? Calm is an understatement.
2) They did not leave the club at 4 a.m., as they had stated. What time did the camera say they left? 3:45? 4:10? Notice no one said they actual time was? How far off were they? When is the last time any of us were drunk at a club and remembered exactly when you left?
3) They had never said the robbers took their cell phones or watches, and they were seen with them on camera later. Seems odd, yes, but there was no conflicting statement there.
Strange how this is the judge's biggest concern, as she sits on the bench in a country with the highest murder rate in the world.
NBC reporting they pulled the remaining three swimmers off their flights. Lochte, as previously reported, is already back home. Developing story. This is really a big mistake Brazil is making here and will only backfire on them badly. Neither the US delegation nor the IOC is going to appreciate this latest development.

So you're saying Lochte and the other three swimmers were willing to lie to the police? Hmm. I think it's more likely Brazilian officials are trying, once again, to deny the reality of the crime situation in their country.
I'm more inclined to believe the group of swimmers rather than Brazilian authorities who don't want adverse publicity. There were reports also of the international committee and the U. S. committee believing it...then not believing it. They now both assert that this happened.
I read something about this being a off-limits area. I also think they were all drunk. That's probably why Lochte told his mother but not his coach.
Very keen observations. I agree with all of this. When I first read the story, I thought Lochte may have massaged the truth when he said he refused to get down on the ground when ordered to by the cops. Then again many people are naive about the level of violence and corruption down there. Lochte is a flamboyant personality, a partyer. So it's believable that they were doing something they don't want to admit to doing--getting drunk--therefore there's discrepancies because they either don't remember all the details or some of the details are embarrassing--but just fabricating the whole story is ridiculous.
Do Olympic officials arrange taxis for athletes when they're out and about? Because in a country like Brazil they may have either entered a fake taxi or a real taxi that was in cahoots with the set up. Lochte was smart to leave when he did.
LOL...Lochte said his wallet was taken but was detected when they returned hours later to the Olympic village when all were seen entering as if nothing had happened. Many holes in their story and they are lying their azzes off...dude is a flake.

Oh, I thought the first link stated that Lochte did not have wallet & credit cards taken; just cash?
WTH is the deal with them blaming the victim...would they prefer he hang on & make a huge case of it? This seems odd because you would think they would want him to just "go away already" to minimize the bad PR.

LOL, did you actually go read the Daily Mail article the police are basing this 'x-ray machine showed their wallets' story upon? They're talking about the surveillance video showing the men returned to the village in which they place their belongings into a basket before proceeding through a standard metal detector (note - NOT an x-ray machine). They are trying to say the picture of them holding 'things' in their hands which include their credentials and cellphones 'could' be their wallets and thus clearly must be lying. This is like Keystone cops investigating or something. I looked at those supposedly 'incriminating' photos and it looks like they're holding their cell phones - exactly as the men claimed. Also, the judge didn't feel they were weepy enough or some crap? Good lord, this is such an indictment on Brazil and their laughable 'justice' system.
I've seen enough YouTube montages of Olympic tourists getting ganked in broad daylight on busy streets by random thieves to give the athletes benefit of the doubt here. Enough with the charity gifts of the games to unstable countries out of the notion of geographic diversity....Tokyo will be the perfect host in 2020 because their people don't believe in stealing, and their police are well-disciplined and ferocious when provoked.
