Due to the deportation saga last year, for not being Covid vaccinated.
As well as playing through injury too I would think.
His ranking sure got messed up last year due to all of this. He couldn’t play in AO and US Open and then didn’t get the points at Wimbledon! What a mess last year was!
Why was Novak so emotional at the end? It’s not like this is his first grand slam win. He’s won so many, so why was this one so particularly meaningful to him?
Been following a few years. Seen emotions many times but nothing like what Novak did yesterday.
Personally I never understood why tennis players cry at all during victories. When I win something, I jump for joy, I don’t cry. I mean, what’s that about?
He needs to beat Rafa at RG for his revenge arc to be complete. At the start of 2022, him, Rafa and Federer were tied 20 a piece but Australia gave away his best tournament and allowed Rafa to take it.

So he still has unfinished business.
He needs time to heal first. Apparently, he pushed himself to play with a torn hamstring. He was THAT desperate to win this!
Athletes of his caliber are always pushing through some injury. Though a 3cm hamstring tear is fairly significant, and just speaks to his determination. I watched him and he improved from the 4th round, couldn't tell he was injured.
His best bet is to keep moving and practicing while this heals, or he will feel it in subsequent matches.

I suspect when all is said and done, Joker will have the most grand slams and be the undisputed greatest tennis player ever.

Most likely he will.
He may not have the aesthetic appeal of a Federer or a Sampras, or the athletic appeal of a Nadal, but he knows how to win.
Novak has incredible flexibility and endurance, and can usually outlast most opponents.

It's interesting how he's so good because his style of playing is rather flat compared to other players. But then again, the same thing goes for Ash Barty. So, I think what makes them so good is their ability to read their opponent's game very well.

Yup, I guess he is the favorite now to end up with the most career slams.
