Hi, I looking for the best place to live in UT for a single straight woman non-denominational in her 40s in a dog friendly environment (I have a pug). Looking for a nice community and also near day hiking. I recently found out I can not eat gluten (wheat etc) so a community that understands and has options available would be great. I would love to be in a community with other singles so maybe I would have the opportunity of meeting a soulmate and a community that also has families as I enjoy the balance. I have an 80 year old mother I would also want to relocate in an assisted living facility near where I reside. Any suggestions?

I would chose St. George, My Son is about your age and also has a gluten issue. He attends a meeting in St. George from time to time. He has been in Cedar for 2.5 years and not a good place for non LDS and not married, a Social dead zone. He spends most of his time in St. George when not working or enjoying the out of doors. Do your home work ask pointed questions. People on this site can give you in site.

I know St. George has a very nice facility, I think more in Washington, that is good for your Mom. I can get the address if you are interested. Just DM me.

Within a day, you can hike forever almost anywhere.

No wheat products ... been there done that. We have a grandson with that *problem* but we have learned.

1 -- DO NOT make being Non-Denominational an issue !!!
2 -- Clean up after your dog !!

You will do fine St.George, but keep in mind, it does get rather hot in the summer !

Zion is 45 minutes from St George, it has all the hiking you would ever want. Have you ever been to Zion? if not I would recommend a trip, it is the one of the most beautiful place in the world.

I have been to Zion...camping and hotel stays...wow. I love St George area...I have been a few times...and have wanted to move there many times...I was told on a few occasions that it is a difficult community to crack into if non-denominational. I was wondering if that had changed. I always clean up after my dog - I understand frustration with those who do not.

If my goal was to find a soulmate then unfortunately St George would be on the bottom of the list. SLC yes, but rest of Utah is probably not the ideal place for non-LDS people to date. As LDS community is very closed (everyone knows everyone), it becomes very easy for LDS singles to find a partner. However this also means outsiders don't get any access.

As a single male in his 40s living in the St G area, I tend to agree with the above. Utah in general & SW Utah in particular are mostly LDS. On a day to day basis that doesn't mean anything negative -- I believe Mormons are better educated, healthier, more personally responsible, etc. than most other religions, and none have pestered me about religion (I'm a devout Agnostic). BUT when it comes to dating, I've found the hard way that by the time a Mormon woman is in her mid-20s, it seems like she's not only been married for a couple years, but has a couple children already! Thanks to their strong values & available counseling, etc. it seems like the Mormon divorce rate is substantially lower than that for non-Mormons, though there is a lot of domestic-disputes & substance-abuse problems down here (they make up the majority of crimes here).

Other than my love-life, I'm very happy to live around here though, and I've certainly not given-up hope about finding someone. But if finding someone ASAP is a priority for you, Utah, especially SW Utah, probably shouldn't be on your Top-10 list unless you're going to troll Zion or Bryce on a regular basis, trying to meet some visiting hiker.

Salt Lake would be the best place for you in UT. The city itself is maybe 50% LDS and there are a lot of activities here that do not involve church.
