Before you rent anything from Front Door LLC, google it. It seems to have a really bad reputation.
I was looking into that area too, because I live not to far away from it at the moment in the Shaw neighborhood and I saw on craigslist I saw that Park East Apartments | Kohner Properties, Inc. has properties for rent there and the reviews I read about that company didn't scare me. I still try to find a house with garage and yard though and that one is tough to find under $ 800 though.

Thanks for the tip! I just read through some of the reviews and it appears that Front Door LLC has a pretty bad rap! They seem to dominate rentals in the Grove, though. I know it's probably a long shot, but does anyone know of any other companies that do rentals in the Grove? There don't seem to be many on craigslist. I'm driving over to St. Louis tonight (from Bloomington, Illinois), so I may take a pass through the Grove tomorrow. Any recommendations on a lunch location and/or a place to get a good beer? I haven't been in 5 years or so, so I'm assuming a lot has changed!

I've only been one place, but the food, beer and atmosphere were enjoyable:

Atomic Cowboy - Saint Louis (http://www.atomiccowboystl.com/wordpress/ - broken link)

With this weather we are having, you can sit outside!

FWIW, I've never seen a large property management company that has good reviews so I would highly suggest taking those with a grain of salt. I read through them and most of the bad reviews already have serious problems with them. One person complained that they show your apartment while you still live there; that is well within their rights (how else can they rent it?). Others complained about losing their security deposit -- doing your due diligence on the front end by taking pictures and writing down all existing issues and having the management company sign off on that would preclude any such issue. And it sounds like the vast majority of their complaints come from their large, student filled buildings.

We rented from a company in Chicago that had the worst reviews I've ever seen (seriously check it out:Peak Properties Inc - Roscoe Village - Chicago, IL) and while we had some issues with them, we knew our rights, did our due diligence and complained until things were taken care of, and at the end of the day I'd rent from them again.

Also, I love the Handle Bar, but I don't think they're open for lunch. And they don't have beer, but god do I love Sweetie Pie's at the Mangrove. And I haven't been yet, but I've heard great things about Everest -- definitely on my list of places to hit.

Or you can go to the "Bad Dog", however, you might want to read user "T9" for full disclosure:
Bad Dog Bar & Grill

This is hilarious.

What?! I was at the handle bar last weekend and they definetly have beer. All of there taps are local craft breweries and they also have a decent bottle selection and hipster beer cans for the person on a budget. Where you drinking a little to much last time you where there?

I said "And they don't have beer, but god do I love Sweetie Pie's ... " -- like a totally different sentence from the Handle bar.

I was thinking of going to the Handle Bar next week, to bring my fiancee in from out of town, for the vegetarian menu. Did you enjoy the food?
