I'm moving to St Louis to attend nursing school at Barnes Jewish and need some recommendations. I'm in my early 20's and will be living alone. I live about 2 hours from St Louis right now (in a very small city) so I'm not completely unfamiliar with it, but don't have a good feel for the neighborhoods. This weekend I will be checking out some apartments on Lindell, West Pine, Pershing, and Maryland Pl. I've noticed some places just a bit south on Choteau Ave, but know nothing about the area. There is also one on Magnolia Ave right across from Tower Grove Park and another on Oakland in Dogtown, but again, I don't know about the areas. The closer to school, the better, but I'm open for a 15-20min drive. Not looking for anything over $800 and prefer off street parking.

I just moved out of a studio in the heart of the CWE on Maryland Plaza and Euclid, and my rent was $615 a month, with parking on the premises, I was at $690 a month. That's probably a typical price point for a studio, but I was in the heart of the action.

All of those places are fine, especially the Central West End ones. The one you mentioned south of Choteau is probably in the Grove. It's not a bad neighborhood, but not a place I'd recommend for a female living alone. The ones on Magnolia and Oakland should be okay too. Basically the neighborhood hierarchy here goes (from best to worst): CWE>Dogtown>Tower Grove>The Grove. Hope that was helpful.
