Hi all,

I'm a recent college grad moving to the St. Louis area at the beginning of August. I've been looking mostly in the Central West End/Midtown/Tower Grove areas for 1br apartments. Ideally, I'd like to spend about $750-800 each month between utilities and rent. I've been using Craigslist and have checked out a great deal of the places that Frontdoor has to offer. This one (( Apartments and Lofts in Saint Louis - Close to SLU and Washington University | FrontDoor, LLC )) is the apartment I'm extremely interested in at this point. It included water trash and sewer and is $725 a month. In an apartment of that size (~600 sqft), how much should I expect to pay in electric each month? And how much for a cable/WiFi bundle? Thanks so much in advance for your help, everyone!

My apartment was studio at 350 sq ft a month, and I opted for the fixed $50 a month plan. I was very frugal and turned off my combo AC/heater unit as well as all lights every day when I left for work. At the end of 12 months, Ameren gave me back a rebate for $110, so I used almost $500 in electric over that 12 month period. I was away from the apartment many weekends though. My best guess, for a 600 sq ft apartment is that you will pay minimum $50 a month.

Is it all electric, no gas for heat? If so you're probably looking at an average of $75/month or so (less in the spring/fall months and maybe more in the summer and winter) -- totally depends on the unit and how efficient it is.

Charter has a intro special for 12 months for cable/internet for $30, but be prepared for it to double in year two (and don't forget about taxes and fees)

It really just depends on your energy usage, how well insulated your apartment is.... My apartment is 600 sqft, and we usually pay around $20 in the spring/fall months, $40 in the winter, and our last bill was $78 (highest we've paid in the last year) since we ran the air so much during the heat wave. But then I know others who have about the same size apartment and their bills are never below $60.

All St. Loogey, Misery electric comes from coal and nuclear.

I think some comes from natural gas turbine powered 'lektrik.

More expensive than some areas.

60-75$.

Clean your AC air filter (if it is a design that can be cleaned as with window and wall-mounted ACs) weekly. Use a fan and spread the cooling around.

In spite of all the natural gas hydofracking causing a glut, Laclede Gas charges a premium to pipe natural gas into your domicile.

Woo.
