It's all about timing. Don't go to North side or East side at the wrong time. The answer to the thread question is sometimes.

Yes, avoid north side and east side at all times.

Avoid black youths anytime in the southside, south grand, tower grove areas because of the knockout game. Be wary of groups of black youths in the Loop and other areas of the city. We've had a couple rolling shootings downtown in broad daylight, but pay that no mind. We've had groups of young ladies held up at gunpoint downtown near the stadium after a baseball game, but pay that no mind. We've had marines assaulted downtown, mutliple shootings in midtown near SLU, but pay those no mind. We had a young SLU grad, Megan Bokern, killed in the CWE in broad daylight, but pay that no mind. During the outpouring that occurred, we learned that there were a number of robberies and assaults in that neighborhood, but pay them no mind.

Once you figure out what to pay no mind too, there is not much crime except the north side and east side, which all agree should be avoided. Everything else is cool, long as you pay it no mind.

Saint Louis is the ghetto-est city I have ever seen. City maintenance is a joke -- broken down streets that take half a year to fix. People are poor. Crime is high.

Have any of these people been to St. Louis in the last decade? There are tons of renovation and new construction going on and crime is down significantly.

Yes, a terrible crime happened down there. How does your sarcastic comment help?

Crimes like this happen in the downtown of every major city. Chicago, NYC, Boston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas all have had something like this this happen in recent weeks. I could go on. The fact remains that crime is down in the city of St. Louis and has been decreasing for the last few years. There is significantly more construction, investment, and activity compared to decades past.

Now what are you going to do about it? You are foolish if you think pointing at us and taunting from the periphery does anything other than harm yourself. Are you supporting downtown businesses with your patronage? Are you doing activities downtown to create more of a pedestrian culture and thus make it less attractive for criminals? Do you walk and ride public transportation as much as possible to reduce car traffic downtown so parked cars are less of a target for criminals? Do you own property in the city and investing in improvements? Are you paying city taxes to support the police as much as possible to improve safety? I am.

I go to E. St Louis (or any other place) any time that I want. I just always CCW and stay alert. If they want to get shot, I will accomodate them, real quick like. This sort of attitude shows, and guess what? They almost always find somebody else to bother. :-)
