Which areas near ballwin are nicest for a family with children.

Family of 6. Mainly concerned with middle school for the 11 year old. Higher Asian population would be nice as we are a mixed family.

You will have no problems with any area near there. Ballwin is dead center to a whole area of good housing and schools. Any place within 15 miles or maybe a bit more will be fine. Where you land in that area depends more on ypur budget than on any lack of suitability. Hope this helps.

When looking for neighborhoods by prevailing ethnicity I just Google "____ grocery store", where the blank is Vietnamese or Chinese or whatever, and see what shows up on Google Maps.

In terms of niceness, outside of the oldest neighborhoods everything in western St. Louis County is pretty homogeneous. By old I mean some parts of Manchester, the original parts of Valley Park and Fenton, maybe another one I'm forgetting.

Similar question as another recent thread, but it is a relatively homogeneous area, ethnically as well as housing wise. The high school zones I think you would naturally consider would be:

Lafayette (6.9% Asian, #2 STL high school on Niche)
Marquette (9.4% Asian, #5 STL high school on Niche)
Parkway Central (12.8% Asian, #6 STL high school on Niche)
Parkway West (8.9% Asian, #7 STL high school on Niche)
Parkway South (8.8% Asian, #12 STL high school on Niche)

All are good family-oriented areas, all are good schools. Probably comes down to where you can find the house you want on your budget. Some areas have more Asians than others, but you aren't going to find much in the way of racism/ignorance in any of those places. Just beware that traffic on Manchester Ave is horrible.

Anything in Central and West St. Louis County is going to be a pretty good bet for family oriented, great schools, and the Asian population. I would not go to U City if you want public school. Closer in Ladue School District is 14% Asian, Clayton School District is 14% as well. It all depends on what type of house you want and what your budget is. We are mixed Asian/Caucasian and there are zero issues anywhere really, but definitely not in the central corridor.

Awesome! That helps a lot. Any idea where rental houses are listed. I see very little online and we would like to rent at first.

There will be very little rental housing in that area, unfortunately. There are some listed on Zillow. Aside from that, some of the rental communities may offer townhome-like rentals. You may also be able to find a short-term rental on AirBNB/Homeaway. But, not a ton of great rental options if you want a traditional home.

Is there more rentals during summer? We wanted to do a long term rental instead of buying.

Currently Rockwood and Marquette school districts should be ideal for you. Parkway South school district is not bad either. Parkway west and central are gone down a little. And Parkway North is so so. IMO.

Rockwood and Marquette are sorrounded by nice clean neighborhoods, easy shopping and a high Asian/Indian population.
Search the rentals within these school districts and u should be able to find something.
