Each year, a number of us from clanram.com visit St. Louis for the home opener for the Rams. People travel from all over the US and many also come in from the UK. We go to places on Laclede's Landing for food, drink and entertainment.

This past Friday night at Big Daddy's, someone put one of the "date rape" drugs in my wife's drink. After awhile, we started to leave and my wife passed out. The bouncer from the club caught her (many thanks!). Her eyes were fully dialated and she was completely unconscious. I did not know what was going on and carried her out. Unfortunately, she threw up as we were leaving so I was worried about her choking, as well. After making it across the street, my wife started to come to. She remembered nothing and felt pretty bad.

It wasn't until later after we talked to a friend who is a doctor that we figured out she had been given some form of drug similar to liquid ecstasy. Fortunately, my wife recovered. However, there are people that die from this happening to them. The victim remembers nothing so it is rare that the perpetrator (sp?) is arrested or convicted. Many times, women are drugged via the drinks and when everyone thinks that the woman is drunk, the guy (or guys) come along to "help" their friend home. What transpires from that point is for your imagination, but women end up abused, raped, pregnant and sometimes with STDs.

I post this to caution people to be careful as somebody is on the loose in that area trying to do what I have described. Think it cannot happen to you? My wife is 40 years old (though she looks younger). Please be careful - drink from a bottle when you can.

Some other information - the dose is usually around $5 in cost. It is clear and is very hard to taste in water.

For those that might say my wife was drunk - nope - she had 3/4 of one drink.

That's what happens when the "sleeveless t shirt and trucker hat" or the "gold chains and baggy pants" crowd gets through the doors. I've complained about the area before. As far as I'm concerned its just not worth going there it on any level. You can get the same atmosphere with a with a kegger at a trailer park.

Your warning is good for all women, especially those on "girls nights out". There are a lot of cowardly creeps looking to take advantage of women that are not using the best discretion. As you have shown, it can easily happen to "attached" women.

I am sincerely glad that your wife recovered. It could have been real bad.

as someone who posts on clanram.com I'm very very sorry to hear that about your wife. I'm glad she recovered. I can't say whether or not this is the norm at laclede's landing but most people do regard it as a tourist trap and a bit shady. However I love Morgan Street Brewery. I usually try to avoid the crowds though. MSB is a lot nicer than big daddy's, but I always have fun on the landing. Once again sorry about your wife. Hope that doesn't turn you off from future visits. From where were you guys visiting?

(Too bad about our home opener though huh? We'll turn it around.)

That is a relatively common event on the landing, I'm not a big fan of the area. Although I do agree that MSB and a couple other small bars are a good time, I don't like it when my fiance goes there. The last time I was there I saw a girl being carried out of Club BUCA by her hands and legs. i asked the boucers what happened and they said she was slipped some kind of ruffey (sp.). I obviously don't know if it was that or she was really drunk, but the girl appeared to be dead to me and it was about 8 pm.

I agree the Landing has some seedy elements and that Morgan Street Brewery is a giant exception. I'd also add that the Lumiere is a nice place as well but it's off the Landing a little bit. It can be fun to head down there a couple of times a year, but St. Louis has many better options available for a night out. In fact, Washington downtown has a much more sophisticated crowd and it's rightdown the street. If you haven't been to Over/Under yet check it out!

This stuff does not only happen at the Landing. One of my friends was drugged at a bar in Westport that is no longer open. Another friend was drugged at one of the bars in the casino in St Charles (bartender was later fired). It's just the day in age, you have to always be careful and have someone with you that you trust. This is also fairly common in college towns, girls just HAVE to be smart when they go out.

Hi,

I am under the same name on clanram. We were in from Oklahoma (after a week in PA). We had a meal at the MSB after the game and many clanrammers went to MSB after our annual Bash on Saturday at Jake's Steaks.

Thanks to everyone that posted comments and information. I wanted to make people aware of this sort of situation so hopefully it does not occur for anyone else.

Sadly, this is nothing new. When I was in high school back in the '70s, a close friend's sister had her drink drugged in a bar. She was hospitalized and it was touch and go for a while. Very scary. I never, ever leave a drink unattended or turn my back on my beverage in a bar.

Glad your wife pulled through!
