Hi all,

I'm a 20 year old single male planning on relocating to the STL area from Beaver PA (45 mins north of Pittsburgh). I run an online business, so job location isn't important. What I'm looking for is an area with relatively cheap rent (budget of around $500 a month for a simple 1BR apartment) but without high crime. Doesn't have to be Mayberry... I'm not incredibly paranoid (don't have kids to worry about, etc)... but I'd rather not have shootings going on every night either ;-)

Any ideas? If ya'll need more info from me, I'll be around to provide it.

Thanks much for any help!

Tom

Look for places on Craigslist in:

Affton
The Hill
St. Louis Hills
Anything in 63109 zip code except the area right at the intersection of Chippewa and Kingshighway.
Anything in 63139 zip code
Kirkwood
Webster Groves
Shrewsbury
"South County" generally (not South City generally, though)

These areas are safe under just about anyone's standard and they do have very basic places for rent in your price range.

If you are used to city living, then "safer" areas with apartments in your price range are:

Tower Grove South (West of Grand, North of Utah only)
Soulard
Shaw
Maplewood
