Since 6 years I keep losing hair, mostly in the front. My bangs are getting thinner and thinner. I used to have THICK hair.
The doctors just tell me that as long as I have hair, it is all good. It isn't! I can now see my scalp! Biotin or shampoos or olive oil or coconut oils don't make a difference.
I got rid of my husband but that didn't help either.
Also, I am always super tired and wonder, if it is connected. I am officially diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia, with slight depression. It is almost like narcolepsy, but not as bad. Apparently has nothing to do with hairloss.
I don't just want to accept this and give up.
I had complete blood work done, incl. the special check for thyroid. The results are between good and awesome.
I live healthier as most Americans do. I tried MILA, Aloe, tons of teas, all these body cleansing stuff - nothing changed my condition. I also tried antidepressants, stimulants, etc. They worked for a while but I didnt want to be dependent on narcotics.
Does anybody know what kind of Vitamin I could be lacking? I have a hope it is just that simple.
I had the same thing quite a number of years ago and tried everything--I was getting bald spots and I never did have thick hair. B vitamins are supposed to help but didn't for me. I kept taking them though b/c they make me feel awesome. What finally did work after a lot of trial and error was a homeopathic remedy called silicea. I didn't even believe in homeopathic meds and still not sure what I think, but the difference was as dramatic as night and day. My hair went from falling out by the handfuls to barely any at all 2 days later. I continued to take the totally harmless pills for another few days and then stopped and I didn't have to deal with hairloss for another few years and it started again and I took more silicea and it stopped. I still don't have thick hair--it won't give you what you never had but my hair is curly and springy and that makes it look fuller. The best thing is the pills are cheap--maybe $10/a bottle. They're completely harmless--some people say b/c they have nothing in them. You don't have to believe in this for them to work. There are no downsides to trying this and it may work for you.
Another thing I've heard of is MSM. It has sulfur in it, which is good for the hair and skin and some people say it makes their hair a lot thicker. May be worth a try. Again, not too expensive but go easy at first b/c it's supposed to be a detoxifier and can make you head-achey the first few days. It did me.
I have always had a thick head of hair and it grows very fast. Seems like it grows even faster in the winter months. I take Omega 3 with vitamin D3 in it and, through the years, have taken multi vitamins off and on. As far as my diet, I tend to go for stuff that has a lot of protein in it. I don't really care much for stuff with carbs in it. I could do fine without pasta. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. My brothers seem to have much thinner hair than I do. My father had a lot of hair. Maybe it is mostly genetic. If I am feeling tired, I like to increase my cardiovascular exercise-mostly biking. Seems to really help.
Oh yeah, and now I find out that over 97% of Americans, and even healthy ones, are deficient in iodine, so that may be worth a try, or at least a google. It needs to be taken with selenium.
If you don't mind my asking, what were your results for the thyroid test? I know you said "between good and awesome..." Which test(s) specifically did they do for thyroid?
I have a reasonably good TSH right now (I'm medicated for hypothyroidism) but I still have antibodies out the ying-yang...usually, you need to be tested for more than one thing as regards thyroid (T3 and reverse T3, antibodies, etc.) to get the full picture.
I'm new here and still unraveling my health issues, so...nice to meet you.
By the way..."as long as you still have hair, it's all good"? Just great. That's like telling a cancer patient, "Well, you needed to lose a few pounds anyway, so it's all good." If you're losing hair something is WRONG. I want to respect doctors, I do, I realize they went to hell and back for their training. But then I hear something like that...and I can only shake my head.
Things to research / try may be - progesterone. Not sure of your age or hormone status, but that can balance hair (growth/loss) and pigment (among other things).
Also, for energy, I did a quality calcium - either MCH calcium or a good coral calcium. When I was in my late 30's I got REALLY tired - had a demanding job, kids, etc. Well, I started on a good calcium and wha-la! - suddenly I didn't just head for the couch after the workday. I was pretty amazed. I think it had to do with balancing my pH, but whatever it was, it was great. And my nails looked fabulous and grew like weeds too!!
SLEEP -- Oh, yeah, and now (that I'm nearer 60) for some reason, I really like baking soda, and if I drink some in water before bed (about 1/2 to 1 tsp in 8-10 oz of water) I seem to sleep like a 'baby'. Not sure why.... (I prefer it in HOT tap water.....)
Also for sleep, melatonin - about 5-10 mg... (I don't think you can 'OD' unless you down the bottle or something) ...zzzzzzzzzzzz
So I did ANOTHER thyroid test and the specialist says, I am in the upper range of the normal range and therefore have all these symptoms. I have a MILD Hashimoto Thyroid under function.
I googled all symptoms and boom - it makes totally sense. BUT - I have MILD Hashimoto but STRONG symptoms. How can that be possible??
