Hi I'm a girl from California going to move to Syracuse really soon as a transfer undergrad. I'm planning to live alone and trying to figure out some decent and safe places to live. I don't have a car so I would want a place that's convenient for transportation to school and probably some restaurants and grocery stores. People tent to suggest going to the Westcott area. But most of the apartments seems to have pretty bad raps online. I'm having a hard time choosing. Budget would be anything under 1000, with utilities and possibly furnished. I've got a list but I'd like some advice and other suggestions? Would James street be a good place to look at?
My list:
Jefferson Towers (50 Presidential Court Syracuse, NY 13202-2229)
Madison Towers (60 Presidential Court Syracuse, NY 13202-2293)
Clarendon Heights (228 Thurber Street Syracuse, NY 13210)
Chestnut Crossing Apt Homes (923 James Street, Syracuse, NY 13203-2671)
Nob hill apartment (101 Lafayette Road Syracuse, NY 13205-2999) but this one seems a bit far would it be inconvenient?

Please help!
All of those should be fine, for the most part. Not sure about Chestnut Crossing and try looking at the renters guide and mapskrieg websites too.
A couple kids in my section at the College of Law live in Chestnut Crossing; sounds fine, but you'd be reliant upon a car.
Jefferson Towers is the best option if you're looking to walk everywhere. Only about a 15 minute (uphill) walk to campus. Grocrery store might be tricky, though.
A better option might be flats in neighborhoods around the hill. Try orangehousing.com
There are no grocery stores in close proximity to SU. Unless you count Peters/P&C/Tops at Nottingham Plaza.
Both Nob Hill and Clarendon Heights have bus service to SU. Lots of graduate students live in those complexes.
I wouldnt stay in Jefferson or Madison Towers, as the walk UP the hill to campus would be ridiculous in the winter. Not to mention not the safest of walks.
