i am looking for a hotel in syracuse for me and my family to stay at during family weekend at oswego state university. Oswego doesn't have any decent looking hotels so syracuse is close enough and we are looking for something clean and reasonably price.

What kind of hotel are you looking for? I know that there are some hotels just east of the river in Oswego, but perhaps they aren't what you are looking for. There are some newer hotels off of I-481 at Route 31 in Clay that you may like. clay ny hotels - Google Search

First and foremost the hotel must be clean. I don't want to spend more than $170. per night for a room that sleeps 4 adults. It can be 30-40 minute drive from Oswego.

i would try the 2 I posted first and then look into hotels in the 7th North and carrier circle areas just outside of syracuse. There may be something in Oswego or maybe even Fulton that may work though.

I don't have any specific recommendations, but I like to use www.tripadvisor.com to look up hotel reviews. So if you narrow it down to a few you're looking at, you can check that for additional info

I have no suggestion as to which motel-hotel would be best. You will have to use your judgement.

Best wishes to you for a great family weekend at Oswego State University.

I would recommend the Hampton Inn & Suites on Route 31 in Clay (Liverpool address). The hotel is about 30 minutes south of Oswego and is less than one-tenth of a mile off I-481. A Barnes & Noble and Sports Authority are right next door to the hotel which is fairly new. There is plenty of big box retail nearby including a shopping mall and chain restaurants like Olive Garden and Ruby Tuesday along Route 31. Across the street from the Hampton Inn is a Fairfield Inn, which is probably about 20 years old. I believe the hotel may have been renovated in the past few years.

I usually stay at the Hampton Inn at 417 7th North Street in Liverpool when I'm up there. Its nothing fancy (no pool) but plenty clean and comfortable. Typical rates are $129 a night or less if you have AAA or AARP. Also, they serve a hot breakfast which most chains don't.

Hampton inn on route 31 in clay would be the best location to spend the night in. That hotel is right next to the 481 which you will be taking to go to Oswego. Also, hotel is newly built and is in an area where pretty much everything is newly built.

You might want to add the Homewood Suites on Elwood Davis Rd to your list too. We stayed there when we came to town to find apartments and found it to be a pretty decent property. I haven't checked prices but I would imagine it's comparable to the Hampton Inn.

If you're trying to fit four adults, you will probably find it preferable to a Hampton Inn as the rooms are 1 or 2 BR suites (with a kitchen if that makes a difference) whereas Hamptons tend to be your typical hotel room. It might make the extra 5-10 minutes of driving worth it. The only downside is that there aren't a lot of non fast-food dining options in the immediate area.
