Hi, we live in an area unserviced by cable, dsl or any other highspeed internet other than hughes satellite which really sucks both in browsing and FAP policies.

We are in central ny. Anyone have any inside knowledge on any companies planning on servicing our area soon, any ideas on getting cable to service that extra half mile(for 3-4 subscribers)?

This BPL, I heard a rumor they figured out the frequency issues... is there any chance it will be available in cny anytime within the next year?

Regards!

A website that may be helpful:
Internet Provider Directory : Find Cheap ISP Providers, Internet Access Provider

You must live in a rural area(?)...all the suburbs of Syracuse have access to high speed internet.

Friend, I already tried. I tried every site on the web that offered hope of finding an isp... even though we are only half a mile from cable lines(any ideas for fixing that issue? ) our only option is WildBlue or Hughesnet and Hughesnet FAP policies, crappy support and crappy browsing(time outs like crazy) is killing us.

Actually we live a little north west of Syracuse... about an hour away. If we were closer I know, we would have much better options. Syracuse has FIOS, WISP and many other options. The rural areas don't have options

Goto www.verizonfios.com/ and enter your address, it will tell you if you can get it. If you can boy are you lucky... however I have heard rumors VFIOS is selling out and may slowly disappear.

I don't live in Syracuse yet and am considering moving there, so I don't have an address or phone number to check against, and that website is really unhelpful (as I think many people are finding out!). hence my query if anyone knew which areas do have FIOS currently. Thanks for letting me know if anyone out there knows this obscure bit of info!
P.S. what do you mean by it selling out and disappearing?

It's highly doubtful Verizon Fios will be selling out and disappearing in the near future as Verizon has a large call center in Syracuse supporting this service for the northeast. It was all over the news yesterday that Verizon will be expanding this call center with an additional 300+ jobs over the next 2-3 yrs. Anything that brings good paying jobs to town is a plus!!

Fios seems to be pretty much available in most of the urbanized/suburban areas, but you'd have to check with Verizon for availability.

It was a rumor of a rumor than anything although Verizon has been talking about selling their lines in central new york... whether it will happen anytime soon or ever I am unsure... if it does the service should still be there just not by Verizon... again this is not confirmed... if you do some google searching you can probably find the same articles I read.

I've had Verizon Fios since Feb/March 2007 in the Clay, NY area and haven't heard anything about Verizon taking down their lines.....seems strange for all those months of wiring up all those neighborhoods for nothing http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9885/iconscratchjo0.png (broken link)
