Default National Realtor Association listed Syracuse as having a healthy housing market

Syracuse is one of four housing markets recognized by National Association of Realtors.

Syracuse area avoids housing bust as sales rise

The National Association of Realtors pointed to Syracuse Thursday as an example of a healthy real estate market that is bucking the national trend of falling prices and slower sales.

The number of home sales in greater Syracuse increased 11 percent in December, compared with December 2006. That contrasts with a 22 percent decline in sales nationwide.

Nationwide

-prices fell 1.4 percent in 2007 to $218,900, down from $221,900 in 2006
-the number of homes sold fell 12.8 percent in 2007,

Syracuse market

-prices rose 3.4 percent to $120,000 in 2007, up from $116,000 in 2006
-7,896 sales in 2007, up 0.1 percent from 7,885 in 2006
