As the title says my wife and I are looking to move to Syracuse in August from Florida.
We have been apartment searching and it looks like we have narrowed it down to The Amos - we haven't applied yet because we are a little weary that we can't seem to find any reviews online for the property. But we like what they seem to offer but I know all too well that what a place promises and what you get can be quite different.
Does anyone have any information/opinions on this location? I'm open for suggestions as well if someone knows of a place downtown they prefer to The Amos. To help with that last part, we'd want to be within a reasonable walk/bus transit to Syracuse University where my wife will be attending.
The Amos is in a great location in terms of proximity to the Connective Corridor bus line, as well as walking distance to Armory Square, Clinton Square across the street and Franklin Square/Dinosaur BBQ, etc. blocks to the north. There are businesses on the bottom floor of the building as well. So, I would go for it, if a opening pops and it is within your budget.
It'll be a little far to walk to SU from there. Especially since SYR is a cold-weather city with bracing winds and nonexistent sidewalk shoveling in the winters. And SU is on the top of a large hill. And you would need to walk underneath I-81 for a spell to get there, which is a godforsaken no-man's land. But you will certainly be close to the school. And downtown is nice these days. You will enjoy that spot.
EDIT: I-81 may come down by the way. But it wont be completed in the short term. Google "I81 Syracuse Project" for more on this huge project about to start in the next 12-18 months.

Yes, that would be a good walk, but the Connective Corridor bus line is a block away from the apartment.
Thank you so much for the information! My wife and I have been looking through it and still trying to decide on where we want to settle down. Who knew looking for a place 1300 miles away would be stressful?
I just read an article about the construction they'll be doing at The Amos and it will take out their parking lot during that time. I'll need to check with them about what the parking situation will be like during that time.
Also have been looking at Commonspace Montgomery but I need to check with them on parking too. Having a car and a dog adds those little things I need to be on the lookout for.
I appreciate all the help in this thread. It's seems like the downtown area is the best for what our needs are with close proximity to the school and walkable (for shops and such) albeit a little more expensive than the surrounding area.
^In terms of the Amos, there is parking on the street on West Water Street and Erie Boulevard West. I don’t know if that would be enough, but they may be options for residents. There is a nearby lot on Franklin Street that may allow for temporary parking until the construction is complete.
There is also a parking garage behind it and if you turn the street view around, you can see the Amos to the left of the Federal Building right across the street.
