Hello all!

My DH just accepted a job offer in the Sarasota area and we'll be relocating from NYC to Florida.

DH's job is in Sarasota, nearish to the airport there. I'm a teacher and will likely be looking in the Tampa area.

We would prefer to buy a house. We won't have a ton of $ to spend - we're hoping to get something under 150k. We're both in our early 30s, no kids as of yet, so the house wouldn't have to be huge - maybe 3/1 or 2/1 and a bonus room.

Schools aren't a huge concern for the moment.

DH is willing to commute 45 minutes to 1 hour to work. What else is important to you?

We'd prefer to avoid communities because we have two pitbull breed dogs and I know many communities prohibit them.

Also, I really enjoy the neighborhood feel of Kenwood and we plan to look there. I'd love any suggestions on other areas in Tampa/St. Pete or even Sarasota-Bradenton that have similar feels.

Concentrate search in Brandenton/Sarasota areas. Brandon (east suburb of Tampa) is about hour north from Sarasota.

Also rent for a year then look to buy. Don't jump into buying a house/condo without learning about the area first.

I'd suggest renting first before buying. Learn the layout, what you like and dislike etc. Get your pulse on the community as a whole.

Do not get stuck there. If you consider Brandon, you might as well drive the 20 mins north to live in the city Brandon is trying to be. And pay about the same. And get about the same traffic. And crime. Etc.
