I am sure that other people have asked this many times before but I'll just ask anyway. I have been living in Florida for 5 months now and Have found it a bit of a challenge meeting new friends. We're in Brandon and so far our only friends are our downstairs neighbors which is great but now they're moving to GA.........

so if anyone has any ideas it would be great! I know not everyone is always so excited to talk to strangers they meet on line at Publix but I'd take any advice. Thanks!

I have lived here my whole life, since high school I havent gained a single friend. I dont think im that bad of a guy to hang out with lol. People here just arent quite as friendly as other places I have realized. Im sure there are groups and stuff though which would help, if you have time!

I will be facing this come November. We'll be meeting the varied group in our rather large condo complex in Dunedin, and I guess folks we might meet in the cafes and restaurants, and at community events. But I suspect it's going to be tough--not just meeting people but finding people that we share something with.

Its easier if you have children who participate in after-school events, sports, etc.....that's usually a common interest. Or if you make friends from work - but Ms Bella - you're correct this place (the Tampa Bay area) is a very difficult place to get people to talk, interact. Hard to get people to even smile. Guess life is pretty tough for a lot of people - economically - and this is a area filled w/ transplants who don't want to take the time to get to know people -especially if they're planning on only staying in the Tampa area for a short time.

Where is live isn't that big of a complex and I have noticed that a lot of the people here really keep to themselves. Nothing really goes further then Hi when you go get your mail. There aren't any get togethers offered by the complex management or anything. I guess I'll see what happens maybe I'll strike a conversation with someone at Dinosaur World lol

I don't know your circumstance (work, retired, unemployed, children) but volunteering your time is a way to get to know people - and that can lead to friendships. Me? I play a variety of sports (golf, tennis) and get to know people that way.

I guess you are right near our place, we're off providence road. The girlfriend is overseas for a few more weeks when she gets back we can all have a nice awkward meet up at either publix I guess. Ive only been here a month and she was here for week before she left to go home to take care of some things. In the same boat as you guy when it comes to trying to meet people.

Well I'm not retired but I do have a toddler I actually met my neighbors that are now moving when we both took our daughters to the playground where we live. Then we noticed we were the only ones that did that. And I have read about doing volunteer work.
