Hi,

I'm from out of town (California), I will be in Tampa in a few days to propose to my GF (Lives in Tampa). - I've made reservations for Dinner at Bern's, but thought i want a little more romantic and semi-private place to actually pop the question.

Could anyone recommend a specific place along Bayshore Blvd where I could drop to one knee without too much fanfare?? The time will probably be about 8pm. Also, Could we share a glass of champagne there, or would that be prohibited??

Thanks!

Well, there's Ballast Point Park...but you'll have to plan well because sometimes they have people there...usually it is pretty peaceful, and has a nice Pier too...You can see downtown Tampa from there...not close, but if it is a nice clear day you can see it...
Take this pic as example:

and That is the pier I was talking about:

Hope it works!

Congrats!

Dude, drive over to the gulf and propose on the sugary sands as the sun sets over the water.

That would crush a Bayshore proposal.

I agree....if you don't "have" to be on Bayshore....Do it at sunset, the gulf coast has the BEST ones!!

Thanks Algia and User 8!! - The pics seem fine?? - You see, I've only been to Florida a couple of times. How far is the "Gulf" from Tampa?? Where else in Tampa, besides a Restaurant, would be an Romantic, Semi-Private place to propose??

Thanks Again!!

You're welcome!

The Gulf is only 30/40 minutes away from downtown depending at what time you're going, and which bridge you take. (60 towards Clearwater, or 275 towards St. Pete.

Coming from California....it is tough to think of a place that you're thinking off "in" Tampa itself...the city limits are made up from the tall buildings downtown...Bayshore Blvd (all residential), and crack towns to the immediate north...

IF you depart from downtown Tampa (where the tall buildings are) you could be in St Pete in no time, and downtown St Pete has a nice park/marina in front of 400 Beach drive, its called Straub Park North...very nice park:

This is about 28 minutes from downtown Tampa.

OR...if you must stay in Tampa...I guess you could go to USF Botanic gardens? http://gardens.usf.edu
All though to be honest...the Pinnelas County Botanic Gardens are a lot prettier...http://www.flbg.org/gardens.htm
They even have a wedding garden...

OR

There's the Clearwater Pier...BUT I have to warn you, if they have a festival going on, the Pier is PACKED...So I'd stay away unless it is "Festival free"...

OR...You could swing over to Wall Springs Park in Palm Harbor...the park has two piers on water, and a viewing tower which has gorgeous views of the water...it is tough to spot as the entrance is not all that "advertised"...
This is the view from the tower:

Its about 42 minutes from Tampa. (I am totally biased about this park...you have to take the walkway from the parking lot, keep right on it and it'll take you straight to that tower...and respectively those other two piers, which are smaller than the Clearwater, not the same kind...these are for enjoying sunsets...and well, proposing...LOL)
Wall Springs Park
3725 De Soto Blvd.
Palm Harbor, FL 34683

I can't think of places right in Tampa because it is pretty much filled with businesses all over...and it is pretty congested with Traffic...

Another place that I find very nice is Phillipe Park in Safety Harbor, although I'm not sure about closing time.

Congratulations on your engagement !

You could also go to the Courtney Campbell Causeway which is also on the bay. I would probably stick to Ballast Point because it is close to Bern's but that is just me. There is a place to park beside the pier which is more private. There will be ppl on the pier fishing or just taking a walk.

Be sure to check out the wine list at Bern's and the dessert room.

Congratulations
