Jeanne,
Did you ever find a good neighborhood? My family is also looking to relocate to the Tampa area. (We are graduate educated and currently live in suburban Naperville, IL.) Looking for a safe, family friendly area. Thanks!
Ann

I just wanted to mention, regarding Fl school concerns; if your child has a disability & is in "Exceptional Student Education/ESE" with an IEP (any disability, even "speech impaired" which could be just a chronic 's' or 'r' misarticulation) you can apply for a McKay scholarship which will provide funds towards a private/religious school's tuition. Although there is an "application", I personally have never heard of anyone being denied. Just something for people out of state to know about as an option, if your child qualifies for a special education program.

I hear Westchase/Citrus Park/Carrollwood are good areas but I think that could be a little too far from beaches/parks like I personally want. My sons will be almost highschool age.

Agree with finding a neighborhood with kids on the street...go at different times to visit. I hate living in Georgia, schools here are horrid, crime, everything. ONE thing I love about my neighborhood is my kids have had a great childhood on this street. TONS of friends, parents always watching out for eachothers kids, kids come/go freely between houses-low traffic, no crime and kids always on bikes, skates, 4 wheelers, all on the street. They have been very happy. I hope to find something similar in Safety Harbor
Hello,

I was just wondering if you moved to fl and to what part since your post? We are looking to relocate to the Tampa area in the summer of 2014, and we have 3 teenagers 18 ( college) 17 (senior in highschool) and 14 (freshmen in highschool). Schools and safe community are our #1 priority. Can anyone make a recommendation for high schools and communities?

Thanks & God bless!

Hi relocated,
i was just curious to see if you had any more updates or info on where you relocated and/or your take on the areas you mentioned near clearwater. I am taking my family down in april to dunedin. Dunedin looks to fit the bill with the downtown area and small town feel. we looked at fernandina beach in florida and really liked it. We live in the hamptons, long island now and have 2 young kids ages 7 and 8. We plan on relocating in 3 years so we wanted to find a family oriented place. We would be grateful for any input as you look like you did your homework. We want a community with families and kids, nearby beach and activities. Thanks!!!!

Seminole, Safety Harbor, Pinellas Park have good schools and are very family friendly areas to look at as well.

Palm Harbor is very nice. The schools in PH are A rated every year.

We are also family of 5 , 3 girls age 6 , 3 and 6 months do schools are our priority before we move. We are moving from PA. We started our research and narrow our neighborhood search to westley chapel, valrico and riverview . All 3 of these suburbs seems to have A rated schools, kids friendly neighboorhood with side walk to ride a bike and Beautiful Apollo beach.
My husband visited last weekend abs came back a bit disappointed . He said westley chapel is very rural. Restaurants during lunch time were empty and he didn't see kids outside.
