Agreed. Notice how their attendance has vastly improved since the new owner remodeled the Ice Palace and put a good product on the ice? They also do good promotions, advertise and make the team feel as part of the Tampa Bay area by do many events around the metro region during the season and off season.

I would love to attend a Bolts game and am hoping I am able to this season.

Let's not forget the TV ratings, please. Top 10 in 2012, top 5 in 2010. How would that happen if there was no interest?
Tampa Bay Rays television ratings climbed 28% in 2012 - DRaysBay

Conversely, the Marlins' ratings were 3.0 in 2012 and 2.31 in 2011 (couldn't find 2012).

Slow down there, I was just stating that there is nothing wrong with being cheap because some people seemed to be getting defensive about the thread title.. I am just trying to get some comments from people on why such a good team has such a bad attendance problem.

keep your personal attacks and labels to yourself.

yeah, that's not going to happen - there's no reason to call (label) Tampa Bay Rays fans cheap - it might be your theory - but it's unfounded.

Would you feel better if I changed the thread title to "Are the people in the Tampa Bay area too lazy and full of dickish self importance to support a major league baseball team?" to better reflect some of your fine personal attributes?

Cheap tickets, a great team, bring your own food, I stated facts. The facts are the facts. A great product on the field gets the Rays the MLB worst attendance.

Man, I am starting to doubt the intelligence of Pinellas voters unless they vote these knuckleheads out of office. The Carililon area? Really? You'll have the exact same problems as the current stadium since it'll be a stand-alone facility there. The same problem exist to those that think the Fairgrounds is a good idea. Those two locations WILL NOT WORK. Who votes these short-sighted idiots into office? They need to see what the situation is looking like in the future. Constantly saying "no" without reason is a horrible negotiation strategy.

Tampa Bay Rays find receptive audience in Pinellas County Commission - Tampa Bay Times

As a resident of St. Pete I want to Rays to go to Tampa. I want a mayor that will negotiate a deal for the Rays to move out with a cash payout AND money for stadium demolition. To have that huge chunk of develop-able property in the burg would be nothing but a good thing for the City. Mix-use development, sell to USF St Pete for athletic faciliteis for the college, light manufacturing (not sure of the zoning), the list goes on. Point is, the burg cannot support the team. We tried, didn't work, time to move on. Let Tampa take the potential liability and work it out to leave the burg in financially sound shape, per the lease agreement.

Winners all around.

That is what the mayor should be doing and saying publicly and privately instead of threatening lawsuits.

So maybe Stu should call for a blackout of games on T.V. to get fans into the seats...
