Schools are not a concern, as it would be me alone. I'd like to be right in Tampa rather than out in Riverview, Brandon, Fishhawk, etc. Ideal setup would be a concrete block one story home around 2000 square feet, newer construction, either in a relatively safe neighborhood or a gated community, $200-$300K. I don't really need a water view and don't want to live in a high-rise. Thanks for any feedback.

Try Westshore Yacht Club...that is a newer subdivision in South Tampa off Westshore blvd, because within the actual city limits of Tampa there are no subdivisions like there are in the suburbs. You have condo's, you have various older homes in South Tampa and that's it. You go north you're Carrollwood. areas of Carrollwood will read "Tampa" on your address FYI...33618, 33624 for example.

Thanks - I checked them out and the new homes they're building will be $750K and up! A bit out of my price range.

New Tampa has some building going on in the 33647.

Also: Ashton Woods has some new homes going up in Northwest Westchase, here is the link:

That price range for a new build, puts you in the South Shore(Riverview, Brandon,AP etc), New Tampa, Wesley Chapel, LOL. I am sure you could find a bunch of 1 off's, from builders that buy tear downs to build a home, but in that price range you will be stretching the "relatively safe" term, I did a quick search there isn't much in the city of tampa boundaries, some in port of tampa, a lot in new tampa, wesley chapel area.

Thanks, I'll have to take a drive through those areas. I've been to New Tampa before and thought it was a bit far out.

Look in port tampa by Macdill AFB toward the top end of your price though.

Yes, I think in Tampa I would have to pay over $300K to get anything decent, which is okay if it's nice.

In other areas of Florida that are a bit farther out and have more gated communities, I've seen a lot of homes between $250 and $300K, but then you're not as close to a major city.
