Depends on where you live. We pay around $1575 for excellent coverage.

The savings of more than $10,000 in state income tax more than offsets the extra few hundred dollars in insurance coverage.

Before (Dallas):
build 1999, 3000sq
4/2.5/2
$210k
Tax - $5600
Ins - $900

Now in FL
build 1985, 2300sqft
4/2.5/2
$260k
Tax - ?? (website says ~$4k before homestead, just applied last month so hope it's less)
Ins - $1600
fwiw, I'm still coming out ahead since this house has a caged pool, sunny weather year round, and near the beach :-)

As mentioned earlier I was wrong, I had pulled that post from a response to someone who was inquiring as to the lowest average for taxes between the Tampa areas counties. This was the average of all current taxable residential properties and is not representative of what a new purchase would be.

For a new purchase as mentioned the millage rate would put it on average around 2%. I apologize, I was posting before my coffee had really hit.

As far as some people wanting to blame my one post for the entire housing crash all I can say is get a grip.

Yes, I can admit when I am wrong. Some people, you know who I mean (that would be you), can't admit when they are wrong.
