I need some input on Middle schools in Palm Harbor. We will be moving to the Palm Harbor area in the spring and my child will be in Fla Middle schools for the fall.

A couple quick questions:
1) Are there any pros or cons to Palm Harbor Middle vs Carwise Middle schools? They both seem to be excellent schools.

2) Does anyone know exactly when you need to register new students for the fall in the Pinellas County schools systems? This would be for the public middle school not the magnet/charter schools. I want to make sure that we get into the schools that we want. I have heard both June 1 and July 1 as the registration (new student) opens. It sounds like it is a first come, first serve on open slots.

3) Do both the Palm Harbor MS and Carwise MS feed into Palm Harbor Univ. High? For some reason, I can't find this info on the schools website.

thanks.

My response to #1 is, once a school checks all the boxes and is "good enough" it all comes down to the parent as to how successful most children will be.

For #3, its not the school but your address that determines which schools your children will attend.

To find maps showing each school's attendance boundaries, do a Google search for the school name and the word "zone". Carwise mostly feeds into East Lake High and Palm Harbor Middle mostly feeds into Palm Harbor University High, but the middle school and high school zones are not exactly correlated. East Lake and Palm Harbor University are both very highly rated high schools. Tarpon Springs is rated a little bit lower.

I went to Carwise back in the late 90s. Unless things have changed, Palm Harbor was always known to be safer and most of the kids that went there had higher grades and came from more money.

We also had a problem with fights and kids bringing guns to school at Carwise. Again, this was over 10 years ago so things may have changed.

Haha, I don't think that's the neighborhood they were coming from. Though I'm pretty sure they dressed as if they had guns.
