I just toured this property (Skyline 5th) last week and while I absolutely loved the apartment, the whole complex itself, the price, the other residents and the vibe, there would really be no desire to walk around the immediate area. Nothing desirable and even a "no-tell motel" right across the street. A shame. They (owners of the building) are apparently trying to develop the area by buying two buildings next door and turning one into lofts and another into similar apartments. They will add more parking, another pool, etc. This property was actually my second choice because of all this and the great guy who manages the complex, but I ultimately chose a more 'happening' area in Tampa.

Kamorra2: Thanks so much, the comparison to SF/Berkeley is helpful. I love the Berkeley area actually. And of course Oakland...I have a few friends that have moved there recently due to the rents here becoming so out of control. While nice areas, and an amazing farmers market I must stay near Lake Merrit, I wouldn't venture out at night there.

tgoncalo: Thanks for the first hand info. I've read about the "no tell motel", but also read about all the compliments you mentioned about the place as well so I'm keeping an open mind. Congrats on finding your new place!

I'll give an update when I get back from seeing everything in case anyone else relocating needs any info about apartments in St. Pete.

Thanks again!
