I'd have thought people would know not to take a dip where the critters live.

There was story years ago about a man the was bit by a gator in the same retention pond. If I remember correctly, he was running from the police at the time. Does anyone else remember this or am I completely crazy? My husband vaguely remembers the story too.

3-foot alligator bites girl wading in pond near mall
TAMPA — A 3-foot alligator bit a girl Friday who was wading in a retention pond near a shopping mall here, rescue officials said.
The 17-year-old, whose name was not released, was transported to a nearby hospital
She was wading in the water, not swimming. It was a 3 footer! lolol. I've never had a dog that small.

This is a non-story. Possibly some kid cooling off her feet got bit by a baby gator. Big whoop.

I'll bet she teased it though. In fact, I might even bet that she went in the water to get closer to it. I've spent a lot of time, decades, biking and canoeing the Everglades and a three footer would rarely even let you near them. More often they go into dive and take off when you approach. Though we did have a couple of friendly babies in Lake Alice in G-ville when I went to school there. We used to feed them marshmallows which was so fun because whenever they opened their mouths they'd pop out and float up. haha. I've never even known a big one to attack, though I know that can happen. I've been three feet away from a 16-footer, one of the most wonderful experiences I've ever had in the wild. A three footer? meh.
