Hi,

I am planning to move to the Tampa area this year. Preferably in July. I work in the IT field (Java/Enterprise IT), and I am just wondering what people think about the IT/Java Job market in Tampa. Are there plenty of job opportunities and what kind of opportunities are there? What are some good companies to work for in Tampa are?

I don't mind St. Pete either, basically the whole Tampa Bay area.

Thanks.

The IT field pays pretty good in the Tampa/St. Pete area, especially for developers and system/network admins. As for the Java market, i'm not sure, you could always check Careerbuilder or talk to an IT recruiter, that's what i did and was able to find what i wanted with the pay i was looking for.

I moved down from Buffalo, NY in the summer. For me as a Systems Administrator there were plenty of opportunities.

Only took me a few months to decide on the right position and had plenty of offers

I am in IT and think there are wonderful IT opportunities here! I have an awesome career here making more than I did up north in the DC area!

I appreciate the question @bojanvasiljev, and all the feedback. I'm also a Java Dev who will be moving down in July from MN. Judging from some Indeed searches, looks like there are opportunities in the area.

The trickiest part will either be trying to land a job first before moving, or choosing where to rent in the whole metro area without knowing where I'll be working.

Java does seem to be in demand. I'm a Linux/Unix guy and I think a lack of storage/network might be holding me back but I'm feeling relatively hopeful.

Were you able to find a company to pay for moving expenses as well? I plan on moving down from the DC area to Tampa myself sometime this year.

No, I tried but they didn't budge on that so I relocated myself to a 8% pay raise and significantly cheaper cost of living.

So, after couple of message it is safe to assume the java/it opportunities are there. I am pulling the trigger in 4 months and moving. I am hoping to find a job before than.

You're schedule is about a month ahead of me. If you don't mind, I might reach out to you in June to see if you're willing to share any tips/information as you go through the job search. Good luck!
