My husband and I are in our 50's and considering a move to the Tampa commuting area. We have horses and dogs and 12 ac here. We can make do w/5 acres or so. My husband will be working at the airport and commuting. He commutes aprox. 45 min now. Can someone point us to an area with the most resasonable acreage prices? We love rural, but we still want shopping and dining areas close by. (I know, we want it all) We have all of that here, but really would like to live closer to water.

Thank you!

Check out Brooksville up in Hernando County, which is about 35 miles north of the Tampa airport area. It's about $10K per acre outside of town. Brooksville is the county seat of Hernando County so there are plenty of shopping/restaurant options nearby. Brooksville, Florida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Congrats on your potential move.

I would recommend Plant City. It's a rural farming area that has a quaint town, is close to shopping James L Redmund Parkway, and to mega shopping along SR 60 which goes all the way from Plant City to Brandon, FL. I have commuted from Plant City to St. Pete in 45 minutes during rush hour. I don't know what the cost per acre is in PC, but it is farm and horse country with all the amenities. Local government is good and fair. It's worth a look!

Good recommendations by the previous posters. For another choice, check into Wimauma. It's still very rural.
